Eligibility

- Adults (18 to 64)*
- Resident of Manitoba
- 18 years of age or older
- Have a mental or physical disability that is likely to last more than 90 days and keeps the individual from earning enough money to pay for basic needs
- In financial need: the individual may be eligible if the total cost of monthly basic needs and shelter costs are more than the total financial resources
- Persons with disabilities are not required to look for work in order to receive EIA
What Devices are Covered?
- Hearing aids: cost of hearing aids and repairs
- Medical equipment and supplies: costs for basic and essential medical equipment and supplies not covered under Home Care or any other health plan
- Mobility equipment (devices) and repairs: cost of approved items not covered by the Manitoba Wheelchair Program
- Phones for health or safety: cost of a phone, only if it is needed for health or safety reasons
- Prosthetic and orthotic devices: cost of approved items not covered by Manitoba Health
What Services are Available?
- Assistance in paying for equipment costs
- Assessment
- Delivery, servicing, and maintenance of device
- Repair of some equipment and devices
Procedure for Getting Access
- A physician, nurse practitioner, or psychologist must complete the EIA Disability Assessment Report and justify why the equipment is needed
- Completion of the Application, Employment History and Personal Action Plan forms
- Provide proof of disability
- Completion of a Medical Equipment Request and Justification Form by an approved health professional
- If the equipment is deemed essential by Disability and Health Supports Unit (DHSU), then it is approved and covered by the program
